One of Baidu's first AI hire in the US, James Peng (Peng Jun) had worked at Google for seven years, specializing in back-end and front-end advertising systems. The Tsinghua University graduate with an MS from the University of Buffalo and PhD in engineering from Stanford University was invited by Wang Jing, senior vice president of Baidu, to start Baidu Research US. In 2015, he was promoted to Baidu's Chief Architect in charge of R&D of autonomous driving. At the end of 2016, Peng left Baidu and co-founded Pony.ai with another ex-Baidu employee, the coding whiz, Lou Tiancheng. 

Xu Wenyao received a bachelor's degree in 2006 and a master's degree in 2008 from Zhejiang University. In 2013, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Xu is founder and director of the Embedded Sensing and Computing Group at the State University of New York at Buffalo and serves as an associate professor in the university's Department of Computer Science and Engineering. In February 2015, he co-founded Sennotech in Shenzhen and has served as Chief Scientist ever since. Xu leads Sennotech’s US lab.

Dr. Li is an associate professor at the Software Engineering Institute at the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, Peking University. He is also a member of the Key Lab of High Confidence Software Technologies at the university. Li has been teaching Introduction to Computing at Peking University since 2006. In 2013, he was a visiting scholar at the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Li's research focuses on software engineering, machine learning and knowledge engineering. He founded aiXcoder in March 2017.

Straight out of university, Surya Halim decided that he would become an entrepreneur. After earning his bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, he returned to Indonesia and took on contract work for two years. Halim eventually decided to create his own company and recruited two university friends: classmate Raymond Christopher, and teaching assistant Theodorus Budiyanto, both of whom were working in US tech companies at the time. After Christopher and Budiyanto returned to Indonesia, the three established data wrangling company Delman.

Pedro Bizarro is Chief Science Officer and co-founder at Feedzai, the world’s market-leading solution in fighting online fraud and the fourth Portuguese unicorn, where he has worked full-time since 2008, from before its official launch. He is also a member of the Forbes Technology Council and a member of the IEEE’s Algorithmic Bias Working Group.His previous background involved working in academia in various posts. He spent five years at the University of Coimbra, where fellow Feedzai co-founder Nuno Sebastião was once his student, and occasionally taught at the US Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to these, he was a research assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the US.Bizarro holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Squirrel AI co-founder Jeff Wang Feng started as an academic. He received his PhD in instructional technology from the University of Georgia in 2006. He then conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania from 2006–2007 and the University of Virginia from 2007–2008.Wang was Director of Distance Education at Mount Saint Mary College in New York state from 2008–2011. From 2011–2014, he was Director of John Jay Online, in the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the City University of New York, In 2015, Wang returned to China and joined Squirrel AI as a co-founder. In 2016, he left Squirrel AI and founded his own adaptive learning startup, Learnta Inc, of which he is CEO.

Avid traveler and entrepreneur Peng Tao holds a telecommunications degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne. He has visited over 40 countries and was a former consultant at McKinsey, as well as the founder of two failed startups.

With experience in running a car rental business during a part-time job at college, Xu Peiwen first studied at the University of Malaya, and later pursued his postgraduate studies in Computer Science at Hong Kong University. Xu is responsible for product design, marketing and customer service at iRent.

Mark Kotter is the Austrian co-founder at Dutch cell-based meat startup Meatable, the first to use pluripotent stem cells and claim a highly scalable culture technology, which was developed by Kotter prior to founding the startup in 2018. He is also founder at his biotech startup, bit.bio, which is based in Cambridge, UK, since 2016, where he applies his cellular technological innovation to human stem cell research and has raised investments totaling $42m. His main full-time position is at the University of Cambridge, where he has worked since 2009. He has spent more than five years as a clinician-scientist in stem cell research and was previously a lecturer in neurosurgery. Kotter also lectures at Paris Descartes University and is a team leader at the UK’s National Institute for Health Research’s Brain Injury MedTech Co-operative. He also founded Myelopathy.org to raise awareness of cervical myelopathy. His past positions were as a research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine for one year, and for two years spent at the Medical University of Vienna. Kotter holds two doctorates; one in philosophy from the University of Cambridge and the other in medicine from the University of Graz in Austria. Kotter also holds a master’s in philosophy from the University of Cambridge.

Dai Renguang is a graduate of China Jiliang University.

Born in 1982, Lingga Madu holds a degree in Informatics, Multimedia and Web Development from Kristen Duta Wacana University and an MBA from Gadjah Mada University. He has professional experience as a web developer, user experience designer, financial planner, wealth manager and university lecturer. Before launching Sale Stock, he had worked at PT. Desain Sarana Intermatra, Money for Wealth Financial Services, IMAJIKU Web Developer and J-Factory Event Organizer.

Yan became interested in agriculture while working as a venture capitalist at Pingan Trust, the trust unit of Ping An Insurance, from 2010 to 2014. He invested in dozens of agricultural projects on behalf of his clients. Yan resigned from Pingan Trust in 2014 and founded DFS168.com, an e-commerce platform for agricultural materials. In 2017, he co-founded Tiantian Xuenong with Zhao Guang, a friend from university, and became the company's chairman. Yan received his bachelor's degree in Electronics from Sun Yat-sen University in 2006 and his MBA from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2010.

Li Qin earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Zhejiang University in 2006 and an M.Sc. from Utrecht University in 2007. Upon graduation, he worked briefly on B2B market analysis at the Vilnius office of Euromonitor International, an independent strategic market research provider. After returning to China in 2007, Li became head of R&D on cryogenics at Shanxi Energy Industries Group Co., Ltd. From November 2009 until early 2015, he served as a lecturer at Shanxi University of Finance and Economics. In February 2015, Li founded Sennotech in Shenzhen.

Chen graduated from Tongji University in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, and from Fudan University in 2005 with a master’s degree in the same field. Upon graduation, he worked for Fortune 500 company Sykes Enterprises as a software engineer. In 2009, he received a RMB100,000 seed fund from Fudan University to start Leyi, a customer-to-customer (C2C) platform for trading second-hand goods, with Sun Wenjun, a friend he met through his master’s degree. Although the business failed after two and a half years, the two young entrepreneurs led their core team to form Aihuishou.

After graduating from Tsinghua University and the University of Pennsylvania, Zhou Jiaxiang has been working in the development of the verticals of high-capacity computing and cloud storage research. He led the product development of the email system during his years at AOL.In 2011, Zhou built the Cloud Computing Research Center for Tsinghua University in Shenzhen. The center has processed more than 863 national cloud storage projects through its enterprise services. Zhou has published multiple papers on renowned publications and has obtained four American patents and three authorized software rights.
