Lippo Digital Ventures was the corporate venture arm of Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group, founded by Indonesian billionaire and banker Mochtar Riady. In 2015, the company reincarnated as Venturra Capital, a US$150 million fund focusing on technology firms in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Crevisse Partners is a South Korean investor and venture builder with an impact focus. Its name stands for “Creative, Visionary and Social Entrepreneurs”. Originally incorporated in 2004, Crevisse claims to be the first impact investor in Korea, even before such terms became commonplace. In particular, Crevisse Ventures focuses on startups that solve problems in four major areas: urban communities; climate and energy; education and welfare; as well as jobs and economic growth.

Geniee is an adtech company which has developed its own supply-side platform (SSP), demand-side platform (DSP) and data management platform (DMP). It was founded in 2012 with venture funding from GREE Ventures. In 2015, it received Series D funding from Fenox Venture Capital. So far it has invested in Adskom and AdPushup, both of which are adtech companies.

Kinara is a venture capital fund based in Indonesia. Established in 2011, it focuses on impact investments that include supporting inclusive economy initiatives and eco-friendly ventures such as Greeneration. Kinara has been managing Indonesia’s first business impact acceleration program that has produced 11 enterprises in the food security sector since 2016. Other priority sectors are microfinance, clean tech, agriculture and fisheries.

Alpha Startups was founded by Xu Siqing, former managing director of WI Harper China, and Jiang Yameng, former co-managing partner of Sinovation Ventures. It offers customized services to each project in which it invests. Alpha Startups provides the startups it invests in with three to six months of free workspace and helps them receive follow-on financing.

Founded in Shanghai in 2002, Pre IPO is a private equity investor targeting pre-IPO startups in China. It specializes in sectors like consumer products, medicine, edtech, eco-friendly technology, advanced manufacturing and agriculture. The firm also participates in M&A ventures and risk investments in high-tech, new media and IT. 

AddVentures is the venture capital arm of the Siamese Cement Group (SCG), a Thai conglomerate of businesses. The VC focuses on industrial and B2B startups. Besides backing startups, it has also invested in Vertex Ventures (Temasek's venture arm) and the B2B-focused Wavemaker Partners. AddVentures offers the opportunity for its portfolio companies to build synergies with SCG companies and other long-term partnership schemes.

Established as an asset management company in 2017, Chasestone Capital has launched major funds in real estate, private equity, consumer finance and securities investment. The company completed its Series A funding round in September 2017 with backing from well-known investors such as Orient Capital, SBCVC, Cowin Capital, Bridge Capital, GIG and Tsing Ventures.

Founded in 2012, Purple Orange’s objective is to support the transition away from animals in the food chain, supporting early-stage food and biotech companies across the globe with a focus on alternative proteins and cellular agriculture. It currently has 12 startups from different nations in its portfolio. Its most recently disclosed investments have been in the December 2020 pre-seed round of Chinese cultured meat startup CellX and in the November 2020 $500,000 pre-seed round of Swedish plant-based food vending startup VEAT. 

Founded over 110 years ago from several small agricultural cooperative banks, the Dutch commercial banking group Rabobank has over 10m customers across 47 countries. The banking group’s Rabo Investments vehicle manages Rabo Ventures with a €120m fund investing globally in early-stage fintech and agtech startups. There is also a €30m fund-of-funds to partner with leading VCs in other funding rounds like the $12m funding round of Dutch e-scooter company GO Sharing.The Rabobank Food & Agri Innovation Fund specializes in supporting enterprises involved in creating sustainable solutions for diverse food and agricultural sectors including livestock farms. Rabo F&A Innovation Fund currently has 11 agri-foodtech startups in its portfolio, including participation in a $12m Series A round of Vence, US-based virtual fencing tech company for livestock management.

Bristol Myers Squibb or BMS is one of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies developing medicines in oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease. It invests directly and via VC funds, including Life Sciences Partners (LSP) and BioGeneration Ventures, as LP. BMS is headquartered in New York and has 10 offices and facilities within the US and 13 in overseas locations, namely, Puerto Rico, Canada, France, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Japan and China. 

Dutch-born Rosa Goslinga has spent most of her career working in Africa and speaks five languages, including Swahili. She graduated in business, economics and international development at the University of Amsterdam in 2004. She also completed a master’s in political economy of development at the School for Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London in 2005.In 2006, she worked as an economist at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources in Rwanda where she realized there was an urgent need for small-scale farming insurance to protect the local farmers’ livelihoods against natural hazards.In 2008, she joined Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA) in Kenya, where she initiated a pilot Kilimo Salama in Nairobi as program director. The program was a success, starting with 185 farmers taking up index insurance and growing to be the largest in Africa with over 185,000 participants. Goslinga also met and started working with Thomas Njeru, the lead actuary for UAP Insurance for the Kilimo project.In 2013, with investors backing her project, she developed and patented a system and method for providing a site-related weather insurance contract. She left SFSA in 2014 and went on to set up Kenya’s pioneering insurtech Pula with Njeru as co-founder in 2015.Both are now co-CEOs of the Nairobi-based startup, education and helping over 4m small-scale farmers to protect their livelihoods from environmental hazards with tailor-made micro-finance and insurance products.

Founded in 2003, Northstar Group is a private equity firm managing over US$2 billion in equity capital. The firm focuses on investments in Indonesia and the rest of Southeast Asia. Its investment portfolio includes many different companies, from banks to manufacturing firms. It launched NSI Ventures in 2014, which focuses on early-stage investing in Southeast Asia and has invested in noted startups like Go-Jek and Moka. Northstar Group invested in Go-Jek as well.

Launched in 2013, Japan’s Rakuten Capital is the corporate venture capital arm of conglomerate Rakuten. It manages a range of funds, such as the early-stage Rakuten Ventures, Rakuten Fintech Fund, and Rakuten Mobility Investments. Its portfolio covers a broad range of companies, including C2C e-commerce platform Carousell, ride-hailing unicorn Gojek, and video game vouchers platform CodaPay. Notable exits include the IPOs of US-based ride hailing company Lyft and image sharing site Pinterest.
