Startmate is an accelerator program for tech-enabled Australian and New Zealand start-ups. It also operates a seed fund backed by venture capitalists and established entrepreneurs. The organisation was established in 2011 by Niki Scevak, founder of Blackbird Ventures, and a team that included the founders of Australian enterprise software company Atlassian.  Since its inception in 2011, Startmate has invested in more than 150 startups with a combined valuation of more than A$1 billion. Startmate runs two accelerator cohorts a year, usually from January–April and July–October. This accelerator program is open to a wide range of entrepreneurs, from idea-stage groups and pre-Series A startups, to solo founders and complete teams. Companies participating in Startmate’s accelerator program each receive A$75,000 from Startmate’s community of mentors, in exchange for 7.5% equity. In 2019 Startmate launched a dedicated Climate Cohort, which runs parallel with the standard program and focuses on startups in cleantech and climate-tech. Startmate also runs a First Believers program twice a year, which trains future or aspiring angel investors from Australia and New Zealand by building their confidence and networks and refining their investment strategies. In addition, the organization runs a coaching and mentorship program and holds other networking programs, like a Founders’ Fellowship, Women Fellowship, and Student Fellowship, at various dates throughout the year.

She has a degree in Graphic Design from the Ramon Llull University. 

Albert Armengol is the CEO and co-founder of Doctoralia, an online platform for searching and booking medical assistance. He is also the founder of eConozco (sold to XING AG).Armengol has a healthcare and business background and developed his professional career in the healthcare and insurance sector. He later moved to technology and internet startups as an entrepreneur and angel investor.

Ellipsis Technologies provides startups with strategic, commercial, financial and operational advising. It identifies new seed ventures from IT and e-commerce startups, offering mentoring and investing (direct and sweat equity). It also helps SME and big corporations in their digital transformation.  Its founder and CEO is Marc Costacela, one of Atomian’s advisors. 

Co-founded by Alibaba founder Jack Ma and Target Media founder David Yu in 2010, YF Capital focuses on the internet, technology, healthcare, media & entertainment, financial services, logistics and consumer sectors. Its Chinese name “Yunfeng” combines the first names of Jack Ma (Ma Yun) and David Yu (Yu Feng). Headquartered in Shanghai, it also has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Hangzhou and other Chinese cities; and manages both USD- and RMB-denominated and funds.

Bristol Myers Squibb or BMS is one of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies developing medicines in oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease. It invests directly and via VC funds, including Life Sciences Partners (LSP) and BioGeneration Ventures, as LP. BMS is headquartered in New York and has 10 offices and facilities within the US and 13 in overseas locations, namely, Puerto Rico, Canada, France, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Japan and China. 

Hundsun Technologies Inc. was founded in Hangzhou in 1995. It was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2003. A leading Chinese supplier of financial software and network services, the company focuses on wealth and asset management and offers integrated solutions and services to banks and financial institutions that work in securities, futures, funds, trusts, insurance, exchanges and private placements.

Dharmash Mistry is non-executive director of the British Business Bank and the BBC. He is also a partner at LGT Lightstone, Balderton Capital and Lakestar. As an experienced venture capitalist and entrepreneur Mistry has raised and managed investment funds totaling $1bn. He is a board member and one of the early investors of unicorns like Revolut and Glovo.Mistry is the former MD of Ascential plc, formerly EMAP, B2B media business specializing in exhibitions and information services and listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). He was also the chair and co-founder of Blow Ltd, an on-demand beauty services provider in the UK. Mistry also previously held non-executive director roles in companies like Dixons Retail and Hargreaves Lansdown.

Insight Venture Partners is a US venture capital and private equity firm, headquartered in New York and founded in 1995. It holds over US$20 billion in assets under management, invested in more than 300 companies in 65 countries and has completed more than 200 mergers and acquisitions for its portfolio companies and 84 exits. It specializes in growth-round investments at all levels and has raised more than US$7.6 billion to invest in both minority and majority transactions.

CareCapital, with offices in Hong Kong and Shangai, is a leading investor in the global oral and dental industry. The firm’s operations span clinical and education, consumers product, orthodontics, digital equipment, SaaS, distribution, and industry-specific services. Its team comprises industry experts such as dental entrepreneurs, managers, and practitioners, healthcare investors; the company’s portfolio includes companies based in North America with revenues of RMB 5bn, Europe RMB 1.5bn, and Asia RMB 3.5bn. In June 2020, the company signed strategic partnerships with SINOCERA and Hillhouse Capital to work closely in the development and growth of dental restoration.

Via ID is a business incubator and investor with a presence in France, the US, Singapore, and Germany. Its focus is on startups that develop “new modes of mobility”, which includes businesses ranging from bike-sharing and ride-hailing to vehicle marketplaces, garage comparisons and last-mile deliveries. Besides helping startups grow their business through incubation and investment, Via ID also connects various businesses, from startups to corporates and VCs, to develop synergies. One of its initiatives is The Mobility Club, a “private club” for mobility companies and investors to interact and gain industry insights.

Grupara Ventures focuses on helping startups in the healthcare, retail, foodtech, fintech, biotech and design sectors to transform into global brands. It also provides business and networking support to the startups, including mentoring, office space and access to other investors and potential customers. Grupara has also co-invested and worked with angel investors, such as Mari Elka Pangetsu, Andy Zain, Bunga Citra Lestari, Ashraf Sinclair and Justin Kan.

Ship2B is an accelerator and investor for social impact startups and spin-offs. It acts principally in three sectors: health tech, social tech for vulnerable groups and climate technology. It also fosters networking alliances between startups and large companies, and has a network of high-level mentors available to assist startups.To date, Ship2B has invested €40m in 146 startups and spin-offs.  

Launched in 2017 by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona, The Collider is a new venture builder that brings together scientists and entrepreneurs to carry out scientific and technological projects through highly innovative startups. It aims to foster the adoption and implementation of new technologies in the field of AI, IoT, Blockchain, VR and 5G networks to facilitate technological transitions and innovations through science and deep-tech knowledge.

Jose Maria Tarragó was the VP of Ficosa International, a global provider in research, development and manufacturing of advanced technology for the motor and mobility sectors. He was also VP of Carbures Europe that specialized in the design and manufacture of engineering systems for automotive, aerospace and security industries. In 2015, Tarragó and his four brothers founded the Lacus Group that invests and mentors new tech companies and industrial manufacturers. He is also an adviser to the Eurofred Group.
