A former Alibaba and Dianping top executive, Lu Xin (b. 1981) is a mother of two. She headed Chinese product operations at Alibaba before joining China’s largest restaurant review site Dianping as its chief traffic officer in early 2010. In January 2015, she quit and left behind her annual million-dollar salary to start Nanguache, her second business venture.

After graduating from Indonesia’s Institut Teknologi Bogor (ITB) with a degree in Industrial Engineering, Faris Rahman worked as a freelance app developer and project coordinator who built custom HR and accounting solutions for Indonesian companies. Faris also had a stint with multinational firm KBR Inc and started a short-lived venture, Travellist-tour. In 2016, he established computer vision startup Nodeflux.

Jordi Romero is a co-founder and CEO of Spanish human resource startup Factorial. He is a computer science engineer who is a partner at Itnig, a Barcelona-based venture builder. Romero was previously CTO and VP for business development at Redbooth, a cloud-based SaaS project management tool that facilitates collaboration and communication between teams. 

Prior to establishing headhunting platform Ekrut in 2016, Steven Suliawan was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at East Ventures. While at East Venture, he helped portfolio companies identify potential employees and recognized the need to streamline the manual process of sorting through job applications and resumes.  Steven graduated with a bachelor's in Industrial Engineering from Ohio State University, USA.

Lan Song completed a PhD in integrated circuit design at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He worked as a research engineer at Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab, a joint corporate research venture in Singapore.His family used to be in the husbandry business that partly inspired Lan to co-found SmartAHC with classmates in 2014. He currently serves as CEO at SmartAHC.

East Ventures co-founder Willson Cuaca graduated from Bina Nusantara University with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He worked at Singapore-based Red Sentry, a cyber security and network performance optimization company. In 2010 he co-founded East Ventures, a seed-early stage venture capital firm. That same year, he also co-founded Apps Foundry, a mobile company that developed the e-reader app SCOOP, among other things.

Febriadi Pratama graduated from Indonesia’s Institut Teknologi Bandung with an Interior Design degree. Between 2009 and 2012, he assumed product design roles at local furniture manufacturers Arbor & Troy and Vinoti Office Furnishing. In 2012, Febriadi took over the management of a furniture company and re-established it as Rota Living.His latest venture is Gringgo, an app-based trash collection service based in Bali.

Greta Bunawan is a co-founder of smart locker startup PopBox Asia. Prior to establishing the venture, she worked at convention space organizer PT Jakarta International Expo as a marketing venue manager.Greta graduated from Universitas Pelita Harapan with a bachelor’s in Psychology and earned an MBA from IPMI Business School.

Mercy Corps’ Social Venture Fund is a seed and early-stage social impact fund operated by not-for-profit humanitarian organization Mercy Corps. The US-based organization is increasingly moving into tech investments, with key interests in agtech and fintech solutions creating social impact. FinX, a platform designed to accelerate financial inclusion worldwide, was also launched recently. Distributed ledgers, digital assets, cryptocurrencies and other digital financial solutions will be deployed to alleviate poverty in local communities. The fund has invested in 16 companies at the seed stage. Investments in the February 2021 included a pre-seed round for Kenyan healthcare fintech platform ImaliPay. In December 2020, it joined a $5.3m seed round for Colombian remittance tech Valiu.

Founded by former IDG Capital partner Zhang Suyang in May 2016, the Shanghai-based VC firm invests mainly in early-stage startups working on tech innovations and healthcare. Total assets under management exceed RMB 2.2bn.

Cambridge and Stanford graduate Adrian Li was born in London to parents from Hong Kong and Malaysia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Cambridge University and an MBA from Stanford University. He is currently a board member of dating startup Paktor, media company MBDC, female online community Female Daily Network, technology development company Imaginato and food social network startup Qraved. He is also the founding and managing partner of venture capital firm Convergence Ventures.

Ahmad Rizqy Akbar is the CEO and CFO of Growpal, an investment crowdfunding platform for aquaculture and fishery projects. A graduate of Aquaculture studies from Indonesia’s Universitas Brawijaya, he has run his own fish and shrimp farm and had worked at Pertamina Dana Ventura, a venture capital fund owned by national oil and gas firm Pertamina. In 2017, he joined fellow Brawijaya graduate Paundra Noorbaskoro to establish Growpal.

Harya Putra is the co-founder of MUVE, a community of Muslim travelers, which he established while still in university. After graduating in 2016, he joined East Ventures' coworking space, EV Hive, as an expansion and partnership executive. In 2017, Harya co-founded the East Venture-supported retail startup Warung Pintar, where he is currently its COO. He holds a bachelor's degree in Information Systems and Technology from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. 

Thibaud Plaquet hails from France, where he earned his master's degree in Electronics and Computer Science from Polytech'Paris UPMC. He previously worked as an apprentice tech support at Philips and later became an apprentice system engineer and channel account manager at Sony. In 2016, he moved to Indonesia and met Manggala Ratulangie when the two were hired to head a joint venture. After the project wound down, they established data science startup Datanest in 2017.

Bynd Venture Capital is a Portuguese seed/early-stage VC firm that changed its name from Busy Angels in 2019 and opened a new €10M investment fund, with Didimo its first recipient. Busy Angels' more than 30-strong portfolio has passed under Bynd's stewardship. Bynd is led by former senior corporate executives and counts among its shareholders former Cabinet minister Luís Mira Amaral and corporate entities Danone, P&G and Pepsi. Busy Angels was founded in 2010 in Lisbon and concentrates on seed and early-stage B2B and B2C startups doing business in Portugal and/or Spain. DefinedCrowd and Zaask! are among its best known portfolio companies.
