The state-backed, Shanghai-based media and entertainment investment group controlled by media mogul Li Ruigang has made its name and fortune in China's most lucrative industries: media & entertainment, Internet & mobile, sport & lifestyle. CMC's portfolio includes Star China, IMAX China, Flagship Entertainment, Oriental DreamWorks, TVB, Whaley Technologies, Imagine Entertainment, Shaw Brothers, Caixin, Gewara, and more. Li, who started out as a lifestyle TV reporter, set up CMC in 2009 with a RMB 2 billion fund.

Founded in 2011, Ankur Capital is an early-stage venture capital fund based in Mumbai. The VC invests in Indian-based startups in diverse sectors like agritech, food, health and education. It has 15 startups in its investment portfolio and has managed one exit to date, Carmel Organics.Recent investments include seed funding for seafood supply chain platform Captain Fresh and agriproduce marketplace Vegrow, as well as participation in the $20m Series C round of predictive farming platform Cropin.

American financial services company Capital Group was established in 1931. As one of the world’s oldest investment management firms, it has over $2tn assets under management. Major known investments include arms and aerospace firm BAE Systems and British American Tobacco. In 1992, Capital Group established Capital Group Private Markets, which specializes in alternative private equity and venture capital investments. This organization has invested in companies like ride-hailing firms Gojek and Didi Chuxing, Philippines media conglomerate ABS-CBN, and more.

American private equity firm Warburg Pincus was established in 1966 and has since invested more than $55bn in more than 750 companies in more than 40 countries around the world. So far, the company has raised 19 private equity funds with over $90bn in assets under management. Its investment portfolio can be divided geographically into Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Its Asian portfolio includes tech companies, real estate, healthcare and more verticals, with many Chinese companies featured on the list.

E²JDJ was founded in New Orleans in 2020 with an agtech and foodtech focus, including in the areas of cellular agriculture and synthetic biology. It has six startups in its portfolio and makes diverse investments. Its most recent disclosed investment was in the $4.7m July 2021 seed funding round of NovoNutrients, the US-based biotech producer of alt-protein from fermentation using CO2 and other emissions.

A spinoff from Chinese investment bank China International Capital Corp, CDH has its roots in private equity. It started in 2002, raising its first fund of US$102 million. As of end-2015, it had over US$15 billion in assets under management, spanning private equity, public equities, real estate and more. It has invested in more than 150 companies, including WH Group, Belle International, Mengniu Dairy, Qihoo 360 and Luye Pharma; and has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore and Jakarta.

Well-known entrepreneur Yu Minhong and Sheng Xitai, a senior investment banker, co-founded Aplus Capital in November 2014. In November 2017, Aplus Capital formally changed its name to  Hongtai Capital Holdings. By the end of 2018, the assets under its management have amounted to over RMB 20 billion. Hongtai Capital Holdings mainly invests in startups in various stages of growth and focuses on sectors of artificial intelligence, big data, consumer products, entertainment, education, manufacturing and fintech. 

Jointly managed by Fondo de Fondos and Sun Mountain Capital, Mexico Ventures leads venture capital strategies in Mexico and USA. The VC offers solutions to add value to diverse business portfolios. Starting with minimum investments of US$1 million, the firm has interests in companies and other funds. It is based at the offices of the Mexican Capital Investment Corporation in Mexico City and also has operations in Santa Fe and New Mexico.

Owned by the Catalan Government, the Catalan Finance Institute (ICF) is a public institution that offers a range of financing solutions, including loans and venture capital. ICF aims to boost private angel and seed investments within the Catalan entrepreneurial ecosystem, while diversifying its investment sources. In 2012, ICF started investing in early-stage startups based in the Catalan territory, providing equity loans of between €50,000 and €200,000. It also participates in syndicated funding within a network of Catalan business angels.

Bojiang Capital was founded in Shanghai in September 2005. The investment management group has branches in Hong Kong, Beijing, Zhejiang and Shenzhen. It also has offices in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles in the US.Bojiang mainly invests in the primary equity market and focuses on high-tech young companies in the technology, media and telecoms (TMT) industry, big data, artificial intelligence, corporate services, fintech, new materials and culture. 

VAS Ventures is the investment vehicle of Martin Varsavsky, a serial entrepreneur from Argentina and founder of companies such as Jazztel, Fon, Ya.com, Prelude and Viatel.Varsavsky began teaching entrepreneurship at Columbia University in 2012. He is also a member of the Advisory Council for Innovation in Justice, created by the Spanish Ministry of Justice in February 2018.VAS Ventures is headquartered in Madrid and has been co-investing with German publishing house Axel Springer since 2019.

Picart Petcare is the family business of Albert Icart Martori, co-founder of Kibus Petcare. It has been in operation since 1953 and is based in Barcelona. Not usually an investor in tech or startups, it has invested solely in healthy pet food preparation hardware startup Kibus with a pre-seed investment of €120,000 in 1Q 2019. Picart distributes pet food and animal feed in more than 25 European and Middle Eastern markets and is set to be a key distributor of Kibus' hardware. 

IDC Ventures is the VC arm of Grupo IDC, a Latin American investment bank. The fund was created in 2019 by corporate executives, entrepreneurs and investors from Latin America, focused on pre-Series A to Series B rounds. Headquartered in Madrid with offices in Copenhagen and Guatemala, the company acts as an international VC working with tech companies to accelerate expansion across LatAm markets. Sectors of interest include fintech, on-demand transportation, digital tools for small and large retailers, and commercialization platforms for robotics.

Founded in Boston in 2015, Material Impact is a science-based investment fund backing products that make an impact on real-world problems. It currently has 10 companies in its portfolio, from seed to Series C investments. Its most recent investments have been in the $50m 2020 Series C round of SOURCE Global (formerly Zero Mass Water), the premier off-grid drinking water production tech using solar-powered panels, and in the 2020 $12m Series A round of  US electronics protective substance producer actnano.

Hong Kong-based Unicorn Capital Partners was founded in 2015 by Tommy Yip, former partner of Emerald Hill Capital Partners.Unicorn is a leading FoF platform that focuses on venture capital fund and direct investment opportunities in China and Asia. It mainly invests in technology, media, telecommunications and healthcare. By December 2019, Unicorn had $800m in assets under management. It also raised over $350m for its fourth fund.
