Founder and CEO of Amartha
After graduating from Institut Teknologi Bandung with a degree in business, Andi Taufan started work on palm oil projects for IBM, traveling around Indonesia and meeting local farmers who were struggling to get small loans for their businesses.He left IBM and started Lembaga Keuangan Mikro (Micro-Finance Institution) to help rural business owners in 2010. Armed with a master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University in 2016, Andi managed to secure VC funds and transformed the original microloans co-operative into PT Amartha Micro Fintek, a P2P micro-lending platform.

Edwin Widjonarko spent almost 6 years working as a research assistant at the USA’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory and at University of Colorado Boulder. In some of the projects he worked on, Widjonarko contributed to the development of new generation solar panels. In 2015, he left the research sphere to join Intel Corporation as a technology development process engineer. He stayed on until 2018, when he left Intel and returned to Indonesia to establish Xurya, a solar power company. Working with longtime friend Gusmantara Himawan and former East Ventures associate Philip Effendy, Widjonarko now works as Xurya’s director of technology.

Islamic finance and marketing expert Else Fernanda earned his bachelor’s in Accounting from Universitas Indonesia, the national university; a master’s in Finance from the University of Strathclyde; and a certificate in Human Resources from Atma Jaya University. After working in the finance industry, he founded an Islamic finance and marketing consulting company in 2004. In 2011, he co-founded the Paramadina Islamic Management Institute (PIMI). He co-founded FAST8, a human resources tech company, in 2008 with his wife, Afia Fitriati. They also founded Gadjian, an HR management SaaS startup. Today, Else is also a lecturer at Paramadina University and a member of Sharia Supervisory Board for four companies.

A coffee geek, Robin Boe is a collector of coffee-machines and equipment. Robin also exports coffee beans from his hometown Medan to other parts of Indonesia. Being a son of an entrepreneur, entrepreneurship is part of Robin’s DNA. He has a bachelor’s in Commerce from the Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi STMIK Mikroskil in Medan.Robin co-founded the speciality coffee shop Otten Coffee in October 2012 and expanded it into an online e-commerce platform for coffee lovers in April 2014. He is also the CEO of PT Agrinusa Mitra Kopindo where he has been working since May 2009.

Both of them also co-founded Bilna which was merged with another e-commerce company to become Orami that also caters to women.

He has extensive experience in the adtech and digital media as the former CEO of ad network Adstars and as ex-chief commercial officer mSTARS (PT Antar Mitra Prakarsa).

He left in June 2014 after developing the business into a full-scale operation and saving it from bankruptcy. Joseph is now the CEO of Ralali and hopes to transform the B2B e-commerce systems for the wholesale and industrial procurement sectors in Indonesia.

Gerald Ariff, a co-founder of PT Haruka Evolusi Digital Utama since 2013, recently became the company’s Chief Partnership Officer in November 2016. After spending much of his life in the United Kingdom since 1987, the University of London electronics engineer headed home to Jakarta to work as a research associate in 2001. Gerald later earned a doctorate in Strategic Management at the University of Indonesia in 2007, before joining the Universitas Bina Nusantara Business School (Binus) as a program head in 2011. He still lectures at Binus and the London School of Public Relations in Jakarta.

After an MBA from the University of Melbourne in 2009, he worked at The Great Little Water Company and Amida Recruitment. Nigel is also currently a director at Rayjon Group, a family-owned property investment and development conglomerate that was co-founded by managing director John Hembrow in 1976.
