Sixto Arias is a veteran entrepreneur based in Madrid. He graduated with a BA Communications degree from Complutense University in 1992.In 2001, he started his first venture as co-founder of Movilisto that was sold to London-based mobile value-added services group Itouch Plc in 2004. In 2007, he founded media planner Mobext that was sold to Havas Media six years later.He is an angel investor focusing on projects relating to AI, education, IoT and mobile. He was the managing partner of Conector Startup Accelerator in Madrid for over two years. He is also the founder of the Mobile Marketing Association in Spain.Arias currently runs two startups: digital innovation agency Made in Mobile that he founded in 2014 and edtech Capaball co-founded in 2018. As a digital marketing specialist and experienced lecturer, he also works as a professor at ESCP Europe in Madrid and University of Sergio Arboleda in Colombia.

US native Christopher Carstens graduated in mechanical engineering in 2002 at the University of California, Berkeley. He started his career as a technology analyst at The Spark Group in San Francisco.In 2004, the engineer co-founded Solid Gas Technologies to build a methane hydrate production system. Carstens also founded Homeland Fuels to construct a bioreactor using ethanol. He exited both companies in 2006 and went to work at World Waste Technologies in California as project manager and engineer. In 2012, he started working at Graphene Technologies as R&D engineer.In 2013, he joined an innovation accelerator program at Singularity University where he met Finnish participant Henrietta Moon. They co-founded Finnish startup Carbo Culture in 2016 with Carstens as CTO based at the California plant.The serial entrepreneur and inventor also founded Hydrate Dynamics as CTO in 2015 to develop gas storage and transportation facilities using clathrate hydrates technology. In 2018, he was appointed by the US Department of Energy to be a member of the Methane Hydrate Advisory Committee until January 2020.

Chen received a bachelor’s degree in material formation from Xiangtan University in 2004. While in college, he co-founded 0755.org.cn, one of the earliest online classifieds providers in China. He is also a co-founder of dunsh.org, a nonprofit search engine optimization website in China. After graduation, he served as senior project manager and chief editor at Xiamen Haowei Network Technology. From June–December 2007, Chen served as head of the product department at ganji.com, an online classified site, responsible for product management and customer experience. He then joined 58.com the same year, serving as senior VP of product management and website operation from December 2007 to August 2014.In November 2014, he founded 58 Daojia and has served as CEO since then. In August 2017, 58 Daojia announced a merger with 58 Su Yun and Gogovan, a logistics platform in Southeast Asia, and he became Chairman of the new company. The merger created Asia's largest city-to-city cargo delivery platform. In 2018, 58 Daojia was rebranded as Daojia Group. The group’s 58 Su Yun received $250m funding and was relaunched as Kuaigou Express.

Although the fund is stage agnostic, most of the portfolio companies are at Series A or later. The size of the investment depends on the needs of the startup. A typical ticket size is between S$1 million and S$2 million, with possible bigger amounts of up to S$5 million per round.

Alma Mundi’s investments range between €500,000 and €5 million.Alma Mundi offers its investee companies direct access to a global network of investors and industry experts in leading technology ecosystems. Called the Mundi Club, the group comprises over 700 members from 41 cities worldwide. The group’s board members include advisers and executives from Merck, Havas, PepsiCo, Carrefour, Nestlé and HP. 

Qingdao Haier Venture Capital is the investment arm of China-based electronics manufacturer Haier Group. The Haier SAIF fund was established in September 2014, in partnership with private equity firm SAIF Partners and other investors. The RMB 320m investment fund is managed by SAIF Partners. The fund mainly invests smart home product developers and related sectors like AI, IoT and big data. As of December 2017, it has invested in 16 startups.

Point72 Ventures is the investment arm of US financial group Point 72, established in 2016 in New York. Its principal interests are Fintech, Enterprise technology and A.I. It currently manages 39 companies in its portfolio and has managed the exit of another company, enterprise tech Apprente. Its recent investments include leading multilingual AI-driven translation platform Unbabel's US$60m Series C round, as well as leading the US$42m Series B investment round of Mexican fintech Creditjusto.

Founded in October 2013, JD Finance was renamed as JD Digits in November 2018. The fintech arm of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com focuses on applying digital technology, artificial intelligence and IoT in five sectors: finance, smart cities, agriculture, campus development and marketing.The company manages five sub-brands: JD Finance, JD iCity, JD Agriculture, JD Shaodongjia, and JD MO Media. In September 2017, a joint venture was established with Central Group, one of Thailand’s biggest retailers. In December 2017, JD Digits also started operating an AI lab in Silicon Valley.

Founded in 2006, Abacus Alpha is a German VC that has invested in water or industry service companies instead of the typical tech startups. Based in Frankenthal, Rheinland-Pfalz, it is the investment arm of German multinational, KSB Group, a pump and valve producer. Its most recent investments were the 2019 undisclosed seed funding of industrial tech company Applied Nano Services, the 2018 undisclosed seed round in desalination innovator Salinova and the 2017 undisclosed seed investment in AddVolt, pioneer of renewable energy generation technology to replace diesel engines for cold chain transport.

The Rise Fund is a $2bn impact investing fund co-founded by U2 front man Bono, Bill McGlashan and Jeff Skoll. The fund has partnered with nonprofit consultancy The Bridgespan Group to develop an evidence-based model for quantifying the impact of the firm’s investments.The global impact investment vehicle is managed by TPGGrowth, part of the multibillion-dollar investment firm TPG that focuses on growth equity investments and mid-market buyouts. As of December 2019, the fund has deployed $1.4bn across its investment portfolio.

A private equity arm of China state-backed conglomerate CITIC Group Corp., CITIC Private Equity Funds Management (also known as CITIC PE or CPE) is one of the largest PE investors in China. It was founded in June 2008, managing over RMB 100bn worth of assets including private equity, mezzanine and public market funds. With over 200 investors from home and abroad, CPE focuses on investment opportunities in diverse sectors like healthcare, consumer goods, Internet, technology, software, enterprise tech and real estate. The firm has made investments in more than 100 enterprises.

D Moonshots is an investment fund created by Romanian entrepreneur Sacha Dragic, founder of the Superbets online sports betting group. The Cyprus-based investor was founded in 2019 and typically invests €100,000-500,000. To date, the firm has invested in Romanian medtech Medicai’s €500,000 seed round and UK-based soft-skills VR software Bodyswaps’ £470,000 seed funding.   

Toyota AI Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Toyota Research Institute, is a Silicon Valley-based fund investing globally in startups with cutting-edge solutions in the AI, smart-mobility, autonomy, robotics, data and cloud spaces while leveraging the global expertise and technical resources of the Toyota Group.In 2015 Toyota created the Toyota Research Institute aiming to support the research on next-generation mobility, robotics and new materials. Toyota AI Ventures was founded in 2017 with initial funding of $100m.
