Formation Group aims to create a bridge between Silicon Valley and Asian technology companies. It currently has three offices, in the US, South Korea and Singapore. So far it only has six known portfolio companies, including ride-hailing firm Gojek, grocery shopping company Honestbee, and retail experience technology firm Memebox.

Since its founding in 1972, American venture capital firm Sequoia Capital has partnered with the founders of companies that now have an aggregate, public market value of over $1.4tn. Sequoia Capital acquired Indian venture capital firm Westbridge Capital Partners in 2006, and later became the foundation for Sequoia Capital India. Sequoia Capital India focuses primarily in India and Southeast Asia. It has invested in many major tech companies in the region, including Indian edtech firm Byju’s, budget accommodation network OYO, and Indonesian ride-hailing unicorn Gojek. In 2019, it launched Surge, an accelerator program for early-stage startups in Southeast Asia and India.

Tianjin Venture Capital was co-founded by Tianjin Municipal Science & Technology Commission and Tianjin Municipal Finance Bureau in 2003. It invests mainly in the sectors of advanced manufacturing, TMT, energy conservation & environmental protection, healthcare and consumer services. The firm manages RMB 8bn in capital. Of the 100+ tech startups in which the firm has invested, nearly 10 have gone public in China.

Target Global is an international venture capital firm based in Berlin with offices in London, Tel Aviv and Barcelona.The firm has a total of more than €800m in assets under management, investing mainly in fast-growing tech startups across multiple investment stages and focusing on trillion-euro markets.  

SDP Investment was founded in 2017 by Chi Miao, former Warburg Pincus head of real estate for Asia. It is a real estate investment management firm focusing on acquisition of prime properties in Tier 1 cities in China. The firm also invests in real estate-related areas including logistics, data center and cloud service. 

KDDI Open Innovation Fund is a joint corporate VC operated by Japanese telecommunications firm KDDI and investment firm Global Brain. It forms one part of KDDI's venture programs, the other being a Japan-only accelerator program, KDDI Infinity Labo. With the support of other companies in the group, such as au Financial Holdings and Soracom, KDDI is able to provide extensive and relevant support to its portfolio companies.

Baillee Gifford is a leading UK investment firm founded in Edinburgh in 1908. The firm is wholly owned by the partners, with its HQ in Edinburgh and offices in New York and London. A fourth office was opened in Hong Kong in 2015.Baillie Gifford was originally a law firm that switched to investments in 1909. Its first fund was The Straits Mortgage and Trust Company Limited that was set up to lend money to rubber planters in Asia. Clients include large US pension funds and international corporations in Japan and Australia. As of June 2020, assets under management were valued at £262bn.

Founded in 2017, Starlight Ventures is a venture capital firm based in Miami, Florida. Investing mainly in US-based startups, the VC currently has 29 startups in its portfolio including enterprises involved in alternative energy, carbon reduction or replacement and alt-proteins sectors. In 2020, the firm joined investment rounds for US deep-tech aerospace startup InterCosmos in July and the $84m Series A for fusion energy tech Commonwealth Fusion in May.

Mario Fernández Marín is Co-founder of railway consultancy firm SigmaRail and is also its product manager. From 2004 to 2008, Fernández undertook internships at several Spanish and French enterprises including Unión Fenosa, Dusco-SesameTV, Groupe Assonance and IRCICA. He was a research engineer at the Polytechnic University of Madrid before joining Airbus in 2009, where he working at both its Paris and Madrid operations. He later became Lead Design Engineer at both Siemens and Thales for three years. Fernández is a telecommunications engineering graduate of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. 

Ronald Ishak has been involved in tech startups since 2008 when he became Web Applications Manager, Online Trading at PT Ciptadana Capital and led a team of developers to build an online stock trading app for the Indonesian Stock Exchange. In August 2009, he became CTO at web developer company, PT Domikado, and left in January 2014 when the company was acquired. Meanwhile, in 2010, he co-founded his first (short-lived) company, which developed a photo sharing app for mobile platforms. For nine months from November 2014, he was CTO at PT Giftcard Indonesia, which distributes digital giftcards for brands. In 2016, he co-founded Hacktiv8, a training center that runs web development bootcamps and other programming courses, with Riza Fahmi and is its CEO. Ishak is also partner at RMKB Ventures, an Indonesian VC that has backed, among others, insurtech firm Qoala, “CTO-as-a-service” startup Rebel Works and Hacktiv8.

Initially trained as an electrical engineer at Thanlyin Technological University in 2009, Okka Phyo Maung went on to obtain a joint degree in American studies, sustainable and green tech from Colorado State University and Daejeon University in South Korea. He also provided research and technical support for two local universities while studying in Korea.In 2013, he went to study at Vesalius College in Brussels and graduated in business administration in 2017. While living in Brussels, he gained work experience as a data analyst at Management Centre Europe and was a cost consultant at Bridgewater Consulting.In Myanmar, he has worked as a project coordinator for the construction of telecoms towers in 2013. He was also an advisory consultant for accounting firm EY’s financial due diligence projects. In 2018, he began working full-time as the CFO and CMO of RecyGlo, Myanmar’s first waste management and recycling tech company.

Vladimir Lupenko is a professional accountant, serial entrepreneur and angel investor. Lupenko’s latest entrepreneurial project is Impress, an invisible aligners company using a hybrid model of remote patient monitoring and in-person visits. The startup, headquartered in Barcelona but operating in several European countries, is regarded as one of the fastest-growing telemedicine companies in Europe.Originally from Russia, Lupenko holds a master’s in Economics from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. In 2005 he studied Corporate Finance at the Vienna University of Business and Economics. His professional career started as a Consultant in KPMG Russia in 2005, which he left two years later. Since 2007 he is also the co-founder of FCG, a corporate finance and M&A advisory firm in Russia and since 2013 he is also the non-executive co-founder of CarPrice one of the largest second-hand car marketplaces in Russia and Japan. In 2015, he co-founded AKTIVO a technology-backed real estate platform in Russia.

Gobi Partners is a venture capital firm with seven offices across China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Since it was founded in 2002, the firm has raised seven funds and has invested in over 100 portfolio companies across China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Fosun RZ Capital was founded as the investment arm of the Fosun Group in 2013. Formerly known as Fosun Kinzon Capital, the firm changed its name in 2017. With assets of over RMB 10 billion under management, the firm invests mainly in the internet, finance, education, healthcare, automotive, consumer products and business services fields. Headquartered in Beijing, Fosun RZ Capital has branch offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Silicon Valley, New Delhi, Bangalore, Lagos, Jakarta, Singapore, among other locations.

Norberto González Díaz serves as the CEO of railway consultancy firm SigmaRail, which he co-founded in 2016. His professional life started in the US, where he worked on wind turbine generators in EDF's R&D department. In 2008, he joined CRISA, an Airbus company, as a power electronics design engineer. Between 2011 and 2015, González held various roles at Spanish industrial engineering company Grupo Cobra, spending time in Spain, the Ivory Coast and Cameroon. He holds a master's in Electrical and Thermal Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and another in Advanced Materials from Cranfield University in the UK.
