Felix Cheung graduated in physics from Adelaide’s Flinders University in 1999 and obtained a PhD in physics from the University of Sydney in 2005. He obtained a master’s in food analysis and food safety management from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2015. Cheung met Elton Ho during the master’s program at university and they teamed up to co-develop the advanced sous-vide aseptic packaging (ASAP) technology. In January 2017, they established IXON Food Technology to further develop and commercialize ASAP for the food industry.Cheung previously worked as a website designer and administrator at the Complex Plasma Laboratory, University of Sydney, from 2002–2006. He was also an editor at Macmillan Science Communication for one year before joining the Springer Nature publishing group to work as editor at Nature China from 2007–2014.

Khaled Kasem graduated in Dentistry from Jordan University of Science and Technology. In 2004 he moved to Spain to enroll in a Master of Orthodontics degree at the University of Barcelona. Kasem has over 15 years of experience in his sector, he also undertook further studies in advanced orthodontic techniques. Since 2019 he’s Chief Orthodontist and co-founder of Impress, an invisible aligners company using a hybrid model of remote patients monitoring and in-person visits. The startup is regarded as one of the fastest-growing telemedicine companies in Europe.

Armed with Asian and European experience, Miguel Amaro co-founded Uniplaces in 2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Nottingham, and took a course in Chinese Studies at East China Normal University. He obtained his master’s in Management, with a focus on Global Entrepreneurship, from Babson Graduate School. Amaro also spent two months as an analyst at Grameen Bank in Dhaka, Bangladesh. While developing Uniplaces, he was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Picvic Labs (France), Zhejiang University Innovation Institute (China) and Osram (United States). Amaro is currently part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers.

Dou received her master's degree in International Chinese Language Education from Shandong University in 2014. She worked in the TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) sector for over 10 years, including as a TCSL teacher at the Confucius Institute in South Korea, as product manager at the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Open University of China and as teacher at Shandong University. Before founding Funnybean Technology, parent company of M Mandarin, in 2016, she helped design the app Hello HSK - a platform for foreigners to learn and prepare for the HSK tests.

Willy Arifin graduated in Computer Science at the University of Michigan, USA in 2003. He decided to join fellow University alumnus Benedicto Haryono to set up KoinWorks and became the executive chairman of the P2P lending fintech in October 2015. Willy’s family businesses are involved in the oil and gas shipping sectors. He has been a director of PT Bumi Perkasa Bahtera and PT Bahtera Pacific Line since 2003.

Donny Tandianus is a co-founder of coworking space GoWork. After GoWork's merger with Rework, Donny became the company's CTO. Before establishing GoWork in 2016, Donny worked for nine years as a director at MagicBox, an advertising company specializing in outdoor advertisements. Donny holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Western Australia and attended the Business and Management program at the University of Melbourne.

Akbar Vahidi is an Iranian researcher turned entrepreneur based in Singapore. After graduating in 2010 with a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, he pursued a PhD in chemical and biomolecular engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Vahidi earned his PhD in 2015 and briefly worked as a research fellow at Nanyang Technological University before returning to NUS to pursue research.At NUS, he was a part of a research group that developed a new enzyme screening method based on microfluidics technology. With fellow NUS PhD graduate Peyman Salehian, Vahidi secured an exclusive license to use the technology and established Allozymes, a startup that offers enzyme engineering services. Vahidi became the CTO of Allozymes.

Indraka Fadhlillah became an entrepreneur after graduating from university. Between 2011 and 2015, he was the co-founder and CEO of a T-shirt production startup “Give Production”. In 2015, he joined two former Telkom University students to establish PasarLaut.com that was later re-branded as Aruna. Hailing from the coastal region, Indraka is building up connections in the fishery business as the COO of  Aruna.

Núria Pastor is the CEO and co-founder of HumanITcare, a telemedicine platform for remote patient monitoring using real-world data and AI to treat patients affected by chronic diseases and also to accelerate drug development and clinical trials. Under the helm of Pastor the startup has doubled its user base and is poised to become a leading player in digital health. Pastor holds a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Barcelona and a Masters in Research in neuroscience from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Prior to HumanITcare, she worked as a researcher at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and the University of Barcelona. She has also worked as Business Analyst in EIT Health and has mentored at the European Commission.

A senior engineer with nearly two decades of experience, Pedro Moreira was a consultant for 11 years before he became a project manager at Aguas do Porto. He is currently an IT director at Aguas do Porto.In 2015, Moreira co-founded Portuguese startup Knok Healthcare, now known as Knokcare. The healthtech’s chief strategist is also an assistant professor at the Polytechnic of Porto’s School of Engineering. He received his master’s degree from the University of Minho, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Porto.

Sudarmin Then started his career as a game developer with fellow university alumnus Kris Antoni in 2009. They started to create free-to-play Flash-based games under the banner of Toge Productions, which has now grown into a full-fledged games development and publishing studio. Sudarmin studied games development at Murdoch University, Australia, graduating in 2007. He also enrolled at Indonesia's Bina Nusantara University, graduating in 2008 with a degree in Multimedia Studies.

Soares is co-founder and Director of Engineering at AddVolt, the first renewable energy tech to replace diesel engines for cold chain transport, where he has worked since 2013, when it was still a research project. Prior to that, he worked as both Assistant Professor and Research Engineer at the University of Porto's Faculty of Engineering, the birthplace of AddVolt. Soares holds a master's degree from the same institution in electronic and computer engineering and a Master of Science in management and innovation from the Technical University of Eindhoven, Netherlands. 

Dimosthenis Karatzas is Senior Research Fellow and Associate Director at the Computer Vision Centre (CVC) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He specializes in computer vision, document image analysis and color science. In 2007, he co-founded TruColour in the UK, where he currently is a member of the board of directors. In 2013, he was awarded the IAPR/ICDAR Young Investigator Award “for outstanding service and innovative research in human perception-based document analysis.” Karatzas also worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool and University of Southampton in the UK. Since 2019, he has been part of the co-founding team of Allread MLT, a deep-tech startup that converts text, symbols and codes to Big Data using computer vision technology, character recognition and machine learning.

With experience in running a car rental business during a part-time job at college, Xu Peiwen first studied at the University of Malaya, and later pursued his postgraduate studies in Computer Science at Hong Kong University. Xu is responsible for product design, marketing and customer service at iRent.
