Founded in 2004, Polaris Capital Group is a Japanese private equity fund management firm. Since its inception, Polaris has invested in about 30 Japanese companies. It completed the fourth round of fundraising for its Polaris Private Equity Fund IV in April 2017, during which it raised JPY 75 billion. The new fund will invest in Japanese companies in the manufacturing sector with globally competitive technologies/patents as well as companies with strong brands or unique business models in the consumer goods, retail and logistics sectors.

Bright Success Capital Ltd is a Hong Kong-based family office founded by Hilton Tam who has previously worked at Seagate Technology and Cisco Systems. He specializes in R&D, supply chain processes and consumer electronics manufacturing. Successful investments include Flixibus and N26. The VC manages a portfolio of companies involved in manufacturing and supply chains specifically for hardware components, medical devices, drones and consumer robotics. Its investment focus covers diverse sectors like robotics, fintech, healthcare, enterprise software and deep tech.

Based in Frankfurt, GreenTec Capital Partners is a German social impact investor that focuses on supporting African tech and non-tech startups. The VC plans to increase its investment portfolio to a total of 400 enterprises by 2023. Its current stake in 20 startups is estimated to be €32.5m. In 2020, GreenTec joined the pre-seed round of Nigerian online food cooperative Principally and seed round of Freshbag, a farmers’ marketplace in Cameroon. Recent investments also include AgroCenta’s seed funding in January 2021.

Founded in 2017 in Hong Kong, Happiness Capital invests in seed to growth stage companies in the US, Europe, Israel, and China, with a focus on issues affecting global happiness within the areas of citizen trust, food, health, climate change, and reduced inequalities. It hosts its own annual contest, the Super Happiness Challenge , a global open innovation contest to fund individuals and startups with ideas and new products or services that tapped into unmet needs to achieve happiness, with a possible $1m in total investment on offer. The VC currently has 37 startups in its portfolio, around half of which are in foodtech and agtech. Its most recent investments include leading the $4.7m July 2021 seed funding round of NovoNutrients, the US-based biotech producer of alt-protein from fermentation using CO2 and other emissions, and co-leading the $29m February 2021 Series A round of Israeli 3D printed alt-meat startup Redefine Meat.

Guangkong Zhongying Capital was founded in August 2016 by China Everbright, a state-owned enterprise that engages mainly in banking, securities, insurance and investment management, and Focus Media, the operator of the largest out-of-home advertising network in China. It invests mainly in the sectors of consumption upgrade, recreation, corporate services, fintech and artificial intelligence.

Established in 2016, LEADx Capital Partners is a German-based VC and is the investment arm of major retailer METRO Group. Since its founding, the VC has invested in 36 different companies, with a special focus on European retail, the same sector as METRO Group. It has already had one successful exit, the M&A of GuestU, which provides free internet to tourists. LEADx was the lead investor in the €18m Series B round of online printing marketplace 360imprimir, known as 360 Onlineprint in markets outside Iberia and Latin America.

Founded in 2013 by Long Wei, a co-founder of Dianping, Light-Up Capital (also known as Dianliang Fund) focuses on companies in early through growth stage with specialization in robotics, artificial intelligence, mobile internet and mobile healthcare.

Future Positive Capital is a Paris-based VC with a second office in London. Its investments cover deep-technology companies applying AI, biotechnology, synthetic biology, as well as robotics. Co-funded in 2016 by ex-Index Ventures associate Sofia Hmich along with Alexandre Terrien and Michael Rosen; it has made 18 investments to date. In 2019 Future Positive raised over $57m pan-European impact investment fund, claiming that most European VCs are continuing to staying focused on sectors, such as consumer, fintech, and marketing, or web and mobile technologies. Future Positive’s belief is that there is instead, a long-tail of investment opportunities to back businesses that actually tackle “the world’s most pressing problems”.Through this fund, it will back throughout Seed and Series A stages, with the possibility to follow up on Series B investing between around €300,000 and €5m. Since then the company has backed startups in the like of BioBeats, an AI company focused on preventative mental health, cell-based startup Meatable, and more recently NotCo, the Chilean unicorn disrupting the food and beverage sector with AI-enabled plant-based products.The team counts on an extensive network of mentors, innovators, impact angel investors and entrepreneurs such as F1 pilots Nico Rosberg, the MD of Alibaba France Sebastien Badault, the Omid Ashtari the President of Citymapper amongst others.

Founded in 2013, Telstra’s muru-D accelerator has so far worked with 44 startups, with total revenue generated of over AUD 7.8 million. Telstra also has another venture capital arm that connects with technology businesses at a much later stage in their life cycles and looks to build strategic alliances. muru-D companies receive AUD 20,000 at the start of the program and if they achieve specific milestones by the midpoint of the program they unlock a further AUD 20,000. The accelerator has also dropped the requirement that companies raise AUD15,000 from mentors and investors.

Ideabox Ventures is a VC launched by Indonesian telecoms Indosat Ooredoo, Kejora Ventures and Mountain Partners SEA in November 2016. The VC was an addition to the existing annual accelerator Ideabox program that had nurtured startups like Dealoka, Pawoon and Wobe. More venture capital is expected to come from new partnerships with global institutions in Asia, Europe and North America. Early stage or pre-Series A funding of up to US$500,000 will be awarded to each startup, as well as strategic commercial consultancy and support services to boost the expansion of the VC’s portfolio firms.

The Alexa Fund provides up to $200 million in venture capital funding to fuel voice technology innovation. It is focused on how voice technology can improve customers’ lives, from early-stage pre-revenue companies to established brands. Areas of particular interest include: hardware products that would benefit from the Alexa Voice Service; skills that deliver new abilities to Alexa-enabled devices through the Alexa Skills Kit; and new contributions to the science behind voice technology, including text to speech, natural language understanding, automatic speech recognition, artificial intelligence and hardware component design.

Founded in 2000 by Hans-Jurgen Schmitz and Mark Tluszcz, Mangrove Capital Partners is a Luxembourg-based fund. It has, as an early investor, backed four unicorns, namely, Skype, Wix, WalkMe and LetGo, as well as a multitude of other successful tech startups. It participates at all stages of investment and has made over 120 investments, including as lead investor in 40 of these. It has seen 15 exits to date, including Skype and, most recently, has invested in the Seed round of Attentive.us and in the Series B of K Health and Series A of Flo Health.

Sixto Arias is a veteran entrepreneur based in Madrid. He graduated with a BA Communications degree from Complutense University in 1992.In 2001, he started his first venture as co-founder of Movilisto that was sold to London-based mobile value-added services group Itouch Plc in 2004. In 2007, he founded media planner Mobext that was sold to Havas Media six years later.He is an angel investor focusing on projects relating to AI, education, IoT and mobile. He was the managing partner of Conector Startup Accelerator in Madrid for over two years. He is also the founder of the Mobile Marketing Association in Spain.Arias currently runs two startups: digital innovation agency Made in Mobile that he founded in 2014 and edtech Capaball co-founded in 2018. As a digital marketing specialist and experienced lecturer, he also works as a professor at ESCP Europe in Madrid and University of Sergio Arboleda in Colombia.

After graduating in business administration at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2013, Ife Oyedele II stayed on at the university to obtain a master’s in information technology in 2016.While studying in Michigan, Oyedele met up with Obi Ozor and the two friends started an e-commerce venture to sell diapers and baby soap from the US to customers in Nigeria. Ozor later moved to Philadelphia to continue his studies at Wharton School.Still at university, he gained work experience in business intelligence at Michigan consultancy firm CFI Group for about three years. He has also conducted some research for pharma group iLabs and completed stints in business analysis and quality assurance at various companies. In May 2014, he joined General Fuels company in Detroit and worked as a business manager for almost two years.In 2016, Ozor and Oyedele co-founded Uber-style logistics platform Kobo360 in Nigeria. Oyedele was CTO at Kobo360 until 2020 when he became the company’s Chief Growth Officer.
