OneRagtime is a platform that brings together ventures, startups and advisory services, providing access to capital, industry expertise and operational resources. It also uses a fully-digitalized investment process for its users to carry out due diligence and negotiations. Founded in 2014 by Stéphanie Hospital and Jean-Marie Messier, One Ragtime is headquartered in London with offices in Paris and Barcelona. The company’s mentors include Josep Solé and Laurence Bret, who advise Spanish/Latin American and European technology companies, respectively.

Lakestar is an international VC firm headquartered in Zurich. Founded in 2012 by Klaus Hommels, the VC has been an active early-stage investor since 2000. Its first fund was established in 2013 to invest in fast-growing tech startups across Europe and the US like Skype, Spotify, Facebook and Airbnb. The firm has offices in Zurich, Berlin, London, New York and Hong Kong with total investments of more than €1bn. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020, Lakestar managed to raise a total of $735m for early and growth stage funds to be invested mainly in Europe. One-third of the funds will be designated to early-stage investments and two-thirds to growth-stage companies to drive international expansion. Part of the capital will also be used to strengthen the leadership team.

Established in 2015, Unovis Asset Management is a New York-based investor focussed on the alternative protein sector. It has raised two funds to date, the New Crop Capital Trust and The Alternative Protein Fund. It aims to transform the global food system by investing in solutions that facilitate sustained behavioral change and eliminate the consumption of animal protein products. It partners with entrepreneurs developing innovative plant-based and cultivated replacements to animal products, including meat, seafood, dairy and eggs. It currently has 33 companies in its portfolio and has managed three exits to date including Beyond Meat. Its recent investments include the undisclosed convertible note round of Spanish plant-based meat startup Foods for Tomorrow in May 2020 and in the $28m seed round of US plant-based startup Alpha Foods in February 2020.

Founded in September 2019 by Patrick Morris, Eat Beyond went public on the Canadian Securities Exchange in November 2020. The company’s shares are also traded on the Frankfurt Exchange in Germany and OTC Markets in the US. Morris had worked in capital markets for over 15 years and wanted to find a solution to help retail investors access the emerging markets of alt-proteins and other future food sectors.First of its kind in Canada, the Eat Beyond Global Investment Fund focuses on four key areas: meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy. It also participates in cell agriculture and other experimental projects. Current investments include foodtechs and alt-food source companies working on plant-based proteins, fermented proteins, cultured proteins, agriculture and consumer packaged goods.

Scottish Enterprise, a public arm of the Scottish Government, facilitates investments and economic growth of businesses in the eastern, central, and southern areas of Scotland. Led by Chairman Bob Keiller, Scottish Enterprise fulfills the objectives of the Scottish Government. It employs 1,100 staff across 14 offices in the UK and 33 overseas.Founded in 1975 as the Scottish Development Agency (SDA), it changed into Scottish Enterprise in 1991. Its operative structure was initially formed by Local Enterprise Companies (LECs) with boards led by local entrepreneurs. Since 2000, former limited companies have become wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Scottish Enterprise.Based on its performance report for 2017–2018, Scottish Enterprise has helped portfolio companies with £315m in R&D funds and secured capital investment of £215m.

Crowdcube Capital Ltd is an equity crowdfunding platform established by Darren Westlake and Luke Lang in 2011. The company is authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK. Over the past decade, Crowdcube’s 1.1m users have invested over £1bn. The company became profitable in the second half of 2020. In June 2021, CEO Westlake announced the upcoming launch of secondary marketplace Cubex, dubbed the community IPO. Crowdcube started out as an early-stage crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. The platform earns commissions from successful fundraising campaigns. Investors of the funded companies can also buy and sell shares through the platform. In 2018, Crowdcube introduced a new investor fee at 1.5% of the total investment, capped at £250.

The Craftory is a London-based investment house with a satellite office in San Francisco. Founded in 2018 by retail and media industry veterans Ernesto Schmitt and Ellio Leoni Sceti, the firm has made seven investments in various consumer goods brands. Sceti is also the chairman of London-based family VC firm LSG Holdings, with his brother Patrick as the MD.The Craftory’s $375m fund specializes in building a new investment house of consumer brands, hence its name from the words, “craft" and “factory.” It mainly offers permanent and growth capital to consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands. The Craftory supports CPG challenger brands to help them to grow from “craft” businesses to sustainable, mass CPG brands, offering consumers better choices for everyday products.

One of China’s most famous angel investors and a prolific speaker, Xu Xiaoping (b.1960) is the managing partner of ZhenFund, a TMT-focused seed fund he founded with close friend and business partner Wang Qiang, in collaboration with Sequoia Capital China, in 2011. Xu began investing in 2006, after the New Oriental Education & Technology Group he co-founded became the first Chinese education company to list on NYSE. Trained as a professional musician, Xu plays the piano, violin, and oboe, and composes music as a hobby. He is also the author of more than 10 books. He studied at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music and holds a master's in Music from the University of Saskatchewan.

Owen van Natta was formerly COO of Facebook and CEO of MySpace, and also previously held senior positions in Amazon and Zynga. He is an angel investor, founder of 415 LLC as well as a founding partner of tech-focused VC firm Prefix Capital, and has invested in a number of startups to date. His disclosed investments include participation in the March 2017 $800,000 seed round of Irish water regulatory platform SwiftComply and the November 2015 undisclosed funding round of US-based unicorn Diamond Foundry, the first certified carbon-neutral lab-produced diamond manufacturer. No pic on SM

David Spector is the president and co-founder of the online lingerie company ThirdLove. A former partner at Sequioa Capital, he is a prolific angel investor with investments in around 30 startups across different geographies and market segments.  Spector’s most recent disclosed investments are from 2020 and include participation in the $4.6m seed round of US fintech provider CapChase and in the $70m Series C round of US mobile marketing company Attentive. 

Partner of Zhenfund, Wang Qiang (b.1962) co-founded this TMT-focused seed fund with his longtime friend and partner Xu Xiaoping, in collaboration with Sequoia Capital China, in 2011. The angel investor also co-founded NYSE-listed New Oriental Education & Technology Group, where he was executive vice president in charge of teaching and training at Beijing New Oriental School, and Industry vice-president and group chairman. A leading specialist in English-language education in China, Wang has lectured at the English department of Peking University and served as senior consultant to the English channel of China National Radio. He majored in English language and literature at Peking University and holds a master's degree in computer science from the State University of New York. Wang is a lover and collector of antiquarian books.

The investment arm of Taikang Insurance Group, Taikang Asset Management (Taikang Asset) manages RMB 1.9tn worth of assets, including RMB 1.1tn third-party assets, RMB 420bn alternative investment and RMB 440bn pension funds as of June 2020. Investments are mainly in infrastructure sectors such as transportation, energy, utilities, environmental protection, telecoms and real estate.Taikang Asset is an important platform for Taikang Insurance Group to carry out global business. In November 2007, its wholly-owned unit Hong Kong was set up and has received licenses from the Hong Kong stock exchange for businesses including securities dealing, advisory and asset management. In September 2016, Taikang Asset founded Taikang Asset (Beijing), a new equity investment platform, and raised RMB 2bn for its Phase I Industrial Development Fund by May 2017. Apart from managing and utilizing self-owned and insurance capital, the company manages assets for clients and provides advice on asset management. It also issues public security investment funds among other asset management businesses. 

Kaszek Ventures is an Argentinian VC co-founded in 2011 by Hernan Kazah and Nicolas Szekasy, both hailing from Latin America’s e-commerce success story MercadoLibre. Starting with $95m, the VC made its first investment in Brazilian fintech, Nubank. The VC now has over 159 investments and has managed 21 exits. It mainly focuses on B2C solutions, mobile, healthcare technology, retail and media.The most recent Kaszek investment is in Latin America’s leading crypto platform Bitso, co-leading Bitso’s $62m Series B round with QED Investors. Managing partner Szekasy has also joined Bitso’s board. Existing shareholders Coinbase Ventures and Pantera Capital joined the Bitso round.In 2019, Kaszek raised two new funds securing a total of $600m to invest in later-growth stage companies to tap into Latin America’s rapidly maturing tech ecosystems. The rollout of 4G has also helped to speed up the adoption of new technologies across the region, according to Kazah.

Set up in 2002 by Patrice Hoppenot 15 years after he founded European investment fund BC Partners, Investisseurs & Partenaires (I&P) is an impact investor seeking to help SMEs prosper in Africa and create sustainable jobs and income there. With about €210m raised to date, I&P finances SMEs, startups and regional investment funds in Africa through equity participation and loans, as well as through microfinance institutions. Its I&P Acceleration Technologies focuses on digital startups with €2.5m of funding to be invested in 10–15 startups in 2020–2023. To date, I&P has supported more than 100 capital-funded companies and 20 companies benefiting from subsidized acceleration programs. I&P has about 100 staff based in Paris, Washington D.C. and in seven African offices (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Madagascar, Niger and Senegal).

US-French private equity company L Catterton is based in Greenwich, USA, with 17 offices around the world and over $28bn of equity capital. It mostly invests in the consumer industry as well as real estate and technology startups.Founded in 1989 and currently led by co-CEOs Michael Chu and Scott Dahnke, in 2016, L Catterton partnered with the LVMH Group and Groupe Arnault combining Catterton's operations with LVMH and Groupe Arnault's real estate and private equity operations across Europe Asia, and North America. The partnership formed the largest global consumer-focused private equity firm yet the 31st largest private equity firm in the world. L Catterton holds majority stakes in companies like Birkenstock, Crystal Jade, Bliss, John Hardy amongst others; it also invests in technology startups in their growth and hyper-growth phases. Most notable investments include Aleph Farms, ClassPass, and more recently the plant-based products manufacturer NotCo. Its latest growth fund, L Catterton Growth IV, targets an investment range of $10m–$75m in North America and Europe.
