        April, Andalin received US$50,000 in seed funding as part of its participation in the Ideabox startup accelerator program. The program was jointly run by Indosat Ooredoo and Mountain Partners.

        April, after graduating from Ideabox accelerator, Andalin expanded its team from three co-founders to a total of seven staff.

        September, Andalin won second prize at the NTTINEX Startup Challenge in Indonesia, held by Japanese telecommunications giant NTT. The startup, along with first place winner Kofera and third place winner Bildeco, received funding, access to NTT's investor network and a year's worth of free cloud services.

        November, Andalin won the grand prize at Tech In Asia's Arena pitching competition in Jakarta.

        After graduating from the Ideabox accelerator, Andalin began targeting medium and large enterprises, moving its focus away from SMEs. It continued to offer a similar range of services, including air and sea freight, export-import license applications and custom handling.

    • As of September 2018, Andalin claims to have over 200 small and medium businesses registered as users and has handled more than 1,000 export-import routes; some of the most popular include Hamburg-Jakarta, Jakarta-Singapore and Bangkok-Jakarta, and vice versa.

      Andalin currently lists 18 logistics partners, including Yusen Logistics, TNT, Agility and JNE.

    • In June 2018, CEO Rifki Pratomo stated that Andalin was seeking Series A funding of up to US$3 million, which would be used to support operations and expand to more major cities in Indonesia.

      The company aims to have 1,000 SMEs using their services. To attract more SMEs to its platform, Andalin has also partnered with legal firms that help SMEs secure export-import licenses.

    Types of Services

    Andalin's freight platform provides three categories of services. The first is a marketplace where the user can view shipping prices offered by 18 freight forwarding partners before deciding on which company to engage for their shipment. Much like an online travel agency, the user inputs the details of the item's location and the shipping destination to obtain a list of prices from the different companies. Users must register before accessing the marketplace.

    If the user has special requirements for their order, they can use the second service, where they write in with their requirements and request for a quote. Unregistered users can also receive a quote in this way.

    Finally, companies with a regular shipping schedule can find a prospective freight partner and set up a contract through the Andalin platform. The platform also provides a dashboard, which records the user's shipping requests and a chat function for the user to communicate with the chosen freighter.

    Shipping Modes

    Depending on the destination and volume of item shipped, companies can select between air courier (for small items between 1 and 2kg), air cargo or sea-based freight shipping. For the latter, orders can be made for full container load (FCL) or less container load (LCL).

    Target Market

    Andalin started out to help SMEs clear customs requirements and move goods across borders at more affordable prices. According to CEO Rifki Pratomo, large freight companies are geared towards serving large companies with big shipment volumes, but do not have the right products and prices for SMEs who only ship in smaller volumes. However, freight costs for each shipment can be reduced by consolidating multiple small shipments into one. 

    Andalin has since begun targeting medium to large enterprises as well.
